Hooray for Hollywood!
Well, friends, it's been fun blogging with you for the Academy Awards season and I hope we'll get to do it again in a year's time when we celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Oscar! In the meantime, I'm never more than a mouse click away thanks for the magic of the internet and I'll be sure to keep up on all the Tinseltown news, schmooze and reviews. I hope you enjoyed this year's nominated films and performances. I met Mark Wahlberg over the weekend to discuss his latest film SHOOTER (highly entertaining but certainly not a future Oscar contender) and while I had some time with him, I let him know that I had correctly predicted the major winners in all of this year's categories...with the exception of Best Supporting Actor. While I had correctly gone against the Eddie Murphy trend, I was betting on Mark. I asked him if it was only PR spin/lip service or really true that it's "an honour just to be nominated." Not one to BS, he assured me that it is. He hadn't expected a nomination, nor had he ever expected to be so excited by one, but he admitted that it was very exciting to get that early morning phone call with the news that his work had been so recognized.

I asked Martin Landau where he keeps his gold statuette and he said it's on a special shelf alongside his numerous other accolades like The Golden Globe, the SAG Award and those from the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago Film Critics, Mary Pickford Award and Cable Ace. "At night I know they all talk to each other," he joked.

It's the magic of Oscar no film fan can ever escape. I remember back in 1986 turning down the chance to appear in the Andrew McCarthy/Kim Cattrall film MANNEQUIN because I would have had to be on location in Philadelphia the very day I was scheduled to move to Hollywood! The entire 5 day cross-country trip in my little car, I kept worrying that I may have blown my one big chance to be in a movie and, who knows, WIN AN OSCAR! Ha ha ha, I still laugh about that now and, if you've ever seen that unfortunate "comedy" you would laugh at that, too! It wasn't too long before I got to act in two other box office disasters, OFF BEAT and ISHTAR. But even when the movie is a turkey, somewhere in the back of your mind, there is always a little twinkle of Oscar gold!

"There's Got to Be A Morning After!"
Yes...that was the Oscar-winning Best Song from 1972's THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, but it's also my anthem for today! Another Awards show for the history books and this year was especially fun as I got to blog along with you as it happened! Thanks for all your comments and participation. Keep it coming! We still have a lot to discuss in the week ahead...particularly as the post-party gossip starts trickling in he he he he. Hot topics of the night discussed at the Governor's Ball? Is perennial Playboy Hugh Hefner close to tying the knot? And have Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead reached a settlement regarding the paternity of Anna Nicole's daughter, Dannielynn?

See? Even on Awards night, everybody still loves to gossip!

I'm happy to finally peel off the tuxedo and get back into some comfy clothes now. Still can't get over that Suri Cruise...what a living doll! Just think...in twenty years time, she and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt could be the new stars of the red carpet!

I CALLED IT!
Well, I hate to say I told you so....but I told you so! As I called it on SUNRISE this morning, I predicted THE DEPARTED would take Best Picture and I'm happy to be right! While it might not have taken psychic abilities to predict Best Actor, Actress and Supporting Actress, I do feel kinda cocky that I predicted a Supporting Actor upset (albeit not with Arkin) and a DEPARTED sweep for Director and Picture.

Ellen's sign off was super speedy, but it could have more to dow ith the fact that it was nearly a four (!) hour show. I think they should just campaign to make it an entire weekend event! She did a great job, don't you think? I, for one, believe she should get the gig again next year and let's have some Oscar consistency! Bob Hope and Billy Crystal were there for us...isn't it Ellen's turn!?

Well, kids, that does it for me tonight. Im going to jump into the Benz and head out into the night and see what post-party buzz I can dig up for tomorrow. If nothing else, we'll have fun rehashing the Memorable Moment and Best/Worst Dressed. Thanks for hanging out with me online.

Your pal in Hollywood...Nelson xxx
